Getting a free SSL certificate (HTTPS)

Updated 1 month ago 11 views

SSL turns on the padlock and https:// for your site. It encrypts visitors' connections, and browsers now warn people away from sites without it. We provide it free.

Turning it on

In most cases SSL is issued automatically once your domain points to us. If your site is not yet showing https://:

  1. Log in to your control panel.
  2. Open SSL Certificates (or AutoSSL / Let's Encrypt).
  3. Choose your domain and click Issue (or Install).
  4. Wait a few minutes for the certificate to be issued.

After it is on

  • Visit https://yourdomain.com to check the padlock appears.
  • If some page elements show a "not secure" warning, your site may be loading images or scripts over http://. In WordPress, a plugin like Really Simple SSL fixes this automatically.

If issuing fails

The most common cause is that the domain is not yet pointing to us, or DNS has not finished updating. Give it an hour and try again. Still stuck? Open a support ticket.
