Managing your database with phpMyAdmin

Updated 1 month ago 13 views

phpMyAdmin is a visual tool for looking inside a database — handy for backing one up, editing a value, or importing data.

Opening it

  1. Log in to your control panel.
  2. Open phpMyAdmin (under database or SQL tools).

You are logged in automatically. Your databases are listed on the left.

Back up a database (export)

  1. Select the database on the left.
  2. Click the Export tab.
  3. Leave the method on Quick and the format on SQL.
  4. Click Export — a .sql file downloads. That file is a complete copy of the database.

Restore a database (import)

  1. Select the database.
  2. Click the Import tab.
  3. Choose your .sql file and click Import.

A word of caution

phpMyAdmin edits your live data directly, and there is no undo. Always export a backup first before changing anything, and only edit values if you know what they do.
